Cultural, Literary, and Historical Significance
Kamau Brathwaite is unquestionably one of the signature voices of Caribbean cultural, literary, and historical production in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. His work is unparalleled in the arenas of cultural theory, historical studies, literary criticism, and poetry. As an award-winning contemporary poet, Kamau Brathwaite has creatively exposed international audiences to arenas such as creoleness, history, identity, nation language, tidalectics, and Caribbean African heritage.
Volume 2.1 (Winter 2014) will highlight and celebrate the international reach of Kamau Brathwaite’s contributions in Caribbean theoretical studies and his inimitable poetic stylings. Brathwaite’s work synthesizes the diverse as well as related disciplines of history, linguistics, performance art, sociology, cultural studies, and literature.
For this issue, Caribbean Vistas invites essays on Kamau Brathwaite’s work from Anglophone, Francophone, Hispanophone, and Dutch Caribbean (written in English) perspectives.
Previously unpublished poetry and literary nonfiction of Caribbean literary artists are also welcomed.
Visual art images and video links to performances accompanied by artistic statements will also be accepted for publication consideration.

Abstracts of 100-200 words may be made to the editor by electronic mail at akilahw@msn.com. The deadline for abstracts is April 15, 2014. Accepted papers will be due on June 1, 2014.
Electronic mail submissions are accepted in Microsoft Word format only.
All submissions must follow the current Modern Language Association Documentation Style.
